The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana(PMMVY) is a Centrally sponsored flagship scheme run under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. This scheme aims to provide Maternity benefits to pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers belonging to the Social and Economically Disadvantaged Class. The core objective of this scheme is to support women suffering from Undernutrition and Anemia and also intends to encourage Female Births to promote Gender harmony, disparaging the issues associated with the neglect of Female Children and balancing the sex ratio in the country.
Under this scheme, Women who belong to the SEBC Category and have 2 kids get benefits, provided their second child is a Girl. For the First child, Women receive Rs. 5000 in 2 installments and cash incentives after institutional Delivery according to the terms of Janani Suraksha Yojana, ensuring they get on an average 6000 Rs. For the Second Child, women get 6000 in one installment after giving Birth to the child. Cases of Miscarriage or stillbirths will be considered as Fresh Cases.
About Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana 2.0-
From April 1, 2022, There were new guidelines issued under Mission Shakti, intended to encourage a positive outlook towards girl children, promoting a sense of harmony in society around gender. As per these guidelines, an extra cash incentive will be given to women beneficiaries. For the Second Child, Women will get Rs. 6000 in the First Installment after childbirth. Cases centered around miscarriage/ Childbirth will be counted as Fresh.
Implementation of PMMVY-
- Implementation of the PMMVY Scheme is done through the platform available under the Anganwadi Services Scheme Under the umbrella of ICDS of the Ministry of Women and Child Development. It will be carried out by leveraging the Women and Child Development Department/ Social Welfare Department and health system related to the States/ UTs covered under this scheme.
- Centrally deployed web-based MIS Software Applications will be utilized for effective execution. Anganwadi Centre (AWC) and ASHA/ ANM workers will be a central point for the implementation process.

Conditions under the PMMVY Scheme
For the First child-
- First Installment with 3000 Rs.
Conditions-
- Pregnancy of the women should be registered
- Minimum one Antenatal Checkup should be done in the 6th Month’s Duration in the healthcare facilities, recognized by the administering State.
- Second Installment with 2000 Rs.
Conditions-
- First Childbirth should be registered.
- The child should be given all required vaccines until 14 weeks as part of the Universal Immunization program run under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
For the Second Child (Should be a Girl)-
Single Installment with Rs.6000-
- Pregnancy the woman should be registered.
- A minimum of One Antenatal Checkup should have been completed in the 6th Month’s Duration in the healthcare facilities, recognized by the respective administering authority.
- First Childbirth should be registered.
- The child should receive all required vaccines until 14 weeks as part of the Universal Immunization program run under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Note: In cases dealing with Miscarriage or stillbirths, the beneficiary will be considered under the Fresh category.

Eligibility Criteria for PMMVY-
Applicants should fulfill the following eligibility requirements to avail the benefits from PMMVY.
- Women should be Pregnant.
- She should attain a minimum of 19 Years.
- Women should be employed and experiencing loss of income because of Pregnancy.
Notes:
- Only Women with First Live Birth can avail benefits of this scheme. To gain the advantage, Eligible women should apply within 270 Days after the child’s Birth.
- In the case of the second pregnancy, If a woman gives birth to Twins/ Triplets/ Quadruplets, she gets additional incentives per the PMMVY guidelines.
- Women employed with the Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking or those who are enjoying the same privileges under any law effective, will not be eligible for getting the benefits under PMMVY.
Eligibility Conditions for SEBC Category
Applicants should meet the following requirements to be qualified for consideration under the SEBC Section.
- Women should belong to the SC/ ST Caste
- Women, Partially challenged with at least 40% or Fully Disabled.
- Woman Holding BPL Ration Card or e-shram card or MGNREGA Job Card.
- Woman Holding Ration Card as part of NFSA Act 2013
- Women get covered under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana under Ayushman Bharat.
- Women covered under Kisan Samman Nidhi
- Women having net family earnings is less than Rs. 8 Lakh Per Year.
- Pregnant and Lactating AWHs/AWWs/ASHAs.
- Including other conditions issued by the Central authorities.
How to apply?
Applicants should follow the below-mentioned steps for completing the application process for PMMVY.
- First, the Applicant should visit the official Website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and click on the tab of Citizen login.
- Enter your Contact Number and complete the verification process.
- Fill in the details related to Full Name, block, Village, State, District, and relationship with the applicant. Then click on the Create account option.
- After the creation of the account, click on the Login Tab button available under the main homepage of the Website and insert details related to User ID, password, Captcha Code, etc.
- After completing the login process, click on the “Data Entry” Tab. Select the option of “Beneficiary Registration” and fill in all required details related to Personal Information.
- Select the Option related to the application for the First Child or second Child(Girl child).
- After completing the all details, click on the Submit Option.
Note: Beneficiary must have an active Mobile Number for getting the relevant updates and status related to the application and receiving of the funds.
